The Spanish government remains optimistic about hosting the 2030 World Cup final, despite recent reports suggesting that co-host Morocco had been awarded the prestigious event. Sports minister Milagros Tolón emphasized Spain's deserving status, stating, "We are the reigning men’s and women’s World Cup champions, and Spain and Portugal spearheaded the bid for the 2030 World Cup, which Morocco later joined. We have many advantages and strengths as a country."

The tournament, set to take place in four years, will see Spain, Portugal, and Morocco as co-hosts. While Morocco aims to hold the final at its planned 115,000-seat King Hassan II Stadium near Casablanca, Spain boasts at least two formidable options: Real Madrid's Santiago Bernabeu and Barcelona's Nou Camp.

FIFA quickly refuted claims made by British media on Tuesday, which suggested that President Gianni Infantino had promised Morocco the final in exchange for support. A FIFA spokesperson declared it "false and misleading" to assert that any promise regarding the final's location had been made.

Ms. Tolón expressed the Spanish government's "surprise" at the initial report but underscored FIFA's denial, stating, "The most important thing is that FIFA has already denied it. We are working with FIFA, and we have our next meeting in September. They have been very clear and emphatic in denying this news. We will continue working because we want the World Cup final to be in Spain."

In addition to denying the deal with Morocco, FIFA released a statement pledging support for Infantino following a crisis meeting in Rabat. After withdrawing his controversial World Cup sell-off plan, Infantino acknowledged mistakes made in the proposal process and promised a thorough review to prevent future errors.
