York City has officially appointed Scott Lindsey as their new head coach, just one day after the unexpected sacking of Stuart Maynard. Maynard, who led the Minstermen to promotion as National League champions last season, was dismissed due to a "difference in direction and vision for the football club," according to the board's statement.

Lindsey, previously the manager of Crawley Town, achieved notable success by guiding the team to League One during his first tenure in 2024. However, his recent spell ended in March after a disappointing 10-game winless streak in League Two, which left Crawley just one point above the relegation zone.

Lindsey's first challenge as the head coach of York City will be a significant one, as he prepares to face his former team in an EFL Cup preliminary tie scheduled for Monday, 3 August.
