The Scottish FA faces a daunting task in finding a successor for Steve Clarke, who recently resigned. The organization plans to "cast the net as far and wide" but grapples with the reality that elite club football may have narrowed the options for high-profile candidates.

Among the names circulating in fan discussions and social media, two candidates emerge prominently:

• Ange Postecoglou, the former manager of Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur
• David Moyes, currently at the helm of Everton

However, enticing a manager of their caliber seems unlikely due to financial constraints. Clarke’s reported salary was around £500,000 annually during Euro 2024, and even with a new four-year deal, it remains far below Premier League standards.

Moyes, entering the final year of a lucrative contract at Everton, has previously expressed interest in managing Scotland. He stated, "I think at the right time, when things are right for me and if it's right for Scotland, then it might be a consideration," while leading West Ham United to a sixth-place finish and winning the Conference League.

Despite his credentials, the timing for Moyes may not align, especially given his current salary and responsibilities at Everton. As former Scotland striker Kris Boyd remarked on Sky Sports, the SFA is aware of the financial disparity:

We're not daft enough to think the Premier League isn't paying high wages.

While Moyes could eventually lead Scotland, the present circumstances suggest that the SFA may struggle to attract such a prominent figure.
