As Team Europe gears up for a historic Ryder Cup three-peat in Ireland next September, Luke Donald may look to golf's latest major champion, Aaron Rai, as a potential addition to his roster. Rai's stunning three-shot victory at the PGA Championship positions him as a strong contender for his first Ryder Cup appearance.

With the centenary edition of the biennial contest still 16 months away, Rai's win at Aronimink Golf Club marks a significant milestone, making him the first English winner of the Wanamaker Trophy in 107 years and elevating him to world No 15. This victory also highlights a remarkable achievement: the first time in the modern era that the first two majors were won by Europeans.

Edoardo Molinari, vice-captain of Team Europe, noted Rai's previous contention for a Ryder Cup spot, emphasizing the competitiveness of the selection process. "There were a lot of guys in contention, including Aaron," Molinari stated, acknowledging the challenges of making the team, especially as a rookie.

Rai's childhood coach, Darren Prosser, who recognized his prodigious talent early on, expressed pride in Rai's development and potential. "You could see he was going to be a special kid," Prosser remarked, underscoring Rai's consistent improvement over the years.
