Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney used humor to reference Southampton's recent 'Spygate' controversy in a playful social media video. As the Saints prepare for their Championship fixture at Racecourse Ground on Saturday, the Hollywood duo seized the opportunity to poke fun at their rivals.

Last season, Southampton faced serious repercussions when they were expelled from the play-off final and docked four points after an intern was caught spying on Middlesbrough during a training session. Similar incidents also came to light involving Oxford and Ipswich earlier in the season.

In the released video on Wrexham’s X account, Reynolds humorously mimics the infamous photographs of the Southampton spy by appearing from behind a tree. The Deadpool star opens the clip, promoting shirt sponsor Firefox, by stating:

Today, for no particular reason, we want to talk about the importance of privacy.

McElhenney, known for creating It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, adds, "Specifically, how to prevent spies from seeing what you’re doing." The co-owners joke about searching online for 'how to run a football club', emphasizing that privacy is crucial.

Reynolds concludes the skit by quipping, "Refreshing, huh? An organisation that actually respects your privacy," while the video shows both owners looking at a smartphone allegedly displaying a Southampton pickleball team in practice.

Heading into the match, Wrexham currently sits 19th in the standings after seven fixtures, while Southampton is in ninth place with 10 points, having recovered from their penalty deduction. Wrexham previously teased Southampton during pre-season, posting details of their match with a spy emoji and a reminder to "Check Training Ground" for unauthorized visitors.

Additionally, Watford fans had fun at Southampton’s expense during their first game of the season, with the mascot humorously mimicking a spy gesture from behind a goalpost.
