AC Milan has officially appointed Ruben Amorim as their new manager, marking a significant reset for the Italian club after a disappointing season that saw them fail to qualify for the Champions League.

The 41-year-old takes over following the dismissal of Massimiliano Allegri, who ended the season with a fifth-place finish. The club is intent on overhauling its footballing operations in pursuit of renewed success.

In his statement, Amorim expressed a deep understanding of the challenges ahead:

This appointment marks Amorim’s first managerial role since leaving Manchester United in January after a tumultuous 14-month tenure. He succeeded Erik ten Hag in November 2024 but could only guide United to their worst-ever Premier League finish of 15th in the 2024-25 season.

Despite reaching the Europa League final, where they lost 1-0 to Tottenham, Amorim faced criticism and was sacked in early 2026 after a poor first half of the season. He was succeeded by Michael Carrick, who later led United to a third-place finish, securing Champions League football for the next season.

Amorim now finds himself at another top European club, eager to rebuild his career. He previously enjoyed notable success with Sporting Lisbon, winning the league title twice in 2021 and 2024, along with two Portuguese League Cups.
