Rory McIlroy expressed his willingness to vote for the return of LIV Golf defectors to the PGA Tour, stating that the breakaway circuit no longer poses a threat to traditional tours. This statement comes amidst ongoing uncertainty regarding LIV's future, especially after Jon Rahm, a two-time major winner, opted out of the tour.

McIlroy, who has been a prominent critic of LIV since its inception in 2022, remarked that the circuit could have utilized its significant financial backing more effectively. He noted:

LIV had probably half of a good idea that was executed pretty poorly. They had a lot of capital but I think a lot of that capital was wasted in some ways.

He criticized LIV's approach, suggesting they could have partnered with governing bodies rather than merely enriching established tour professionals. When asked if he would support the return of LIV players to the tours he participates in, McIlroy affirmed, "Yes, I would," emphasizing the benefits of collaboration for the overall business of golf.

During his remarks in New Delhi before the DP World India Championship, McIlroy acknowledged the challenges LIV faces, particularly with players opting out of its upcoming seasons. He pointed out that the recent announcement from the DP World Tour indicated that players joining LIV's 2027 season would be barred from membership in the Europe-based circuit.

Reflecting on his criticism of LIV, McIlroy explained that he and Tiger Woods voiced their concerns due to their vested interests in the game. He highlighted the potential threats to initiatives like TGL (Tomorrow's Golf League), which required PGA Tour membership, thus showcasing the intricate balance between personal interests and the overall health of the sport.
