In a stunning turn of events at the European Championships, Romell Glave and Jeremiah Azu captured gold and silver in the men’s 100m final. The race unfolded dramatically as former Olympic champion Marcell Jacobs faced a shocking breakdown, finishing in a disappointing 12.26 seconds.

Despite the less-than-stellar finishing times of 10.09 seconds for Glave and 10.16 seconds for Azu, the 16,000-strong crowd erupted in cheers. Glave stated, “It doesn’t really matter about the time... I was focused on my race. I was able to do that today and I’m king of the world.” This victory marked the third occasion that British athletes claimed both gold and silver in this event at the championships.

The race began with Azu setting a blistering pace, while Jacobs struggled to keep up, ultimately succumbing to injury. Glave reflected on the moment, saying, “I wasn’t really sure what happened until I saw the replay.”

Having moved from Jamaica to London at 15, Glave spoke about the opportunities in Britain that shaped his career. He emphasized, “I was born in Jamaica, but Britain is where I was made.” Azu, on the other hand, acknowledged his inconsistent season but found his stride when it mattered most, stating, “When it comes to championships, I know I find my best.”

In other events, Nadia Battocletti of Italy dominated the women’s 5,000m, winning in 15:37.84, while Nadine Visser of the Netherlands edged out Pia Skrzyszowska in the women’s 100m hurdles by a mere thousandth of a second. Miltiadis Tentoglou, the Olympic long jump champion, secured his fourth European title with a leap of 8.44m.
