India's cricketing icon Rohit Sharma has dismissed retirement speculation following his impressive 138-run performance against England in the third ODI at Lord's. This match, which served as the series decider, ended in disappointment for India as they succumbed to a 2-1 series defeat.

Rumors about Rohit's potential retirement surfaced after India's loss in the second ODI at Cardiff, with some suggesting the Lord's match could mark his farewell. However, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia quickly quashed these claims.

In his post-match interview with bcci.tv, Rohit stated:

"Look, my job is with the bat. Come and play, represent my country, represent the team. That's what I've been told to do since I made my debut so that's what I'm going to do."

He emphasized the importance of focusing on performance rather than external noise, noting that the chatter surrounding his career is expected:

"The noise since I made my debut was there and till the time I'm going to stay here, it's always going to be there, so it doesn't really matter too much."

Shubman Gill, India's captain, supported Rohit, affirming that there had been no discussions regarding retirement within the team. He remarked:

"He has not told us anything. I think it is all out in the media. But there's not been any discussion like that in the team."

As he approaches his 40th birthday in April, the upcoming 2027 50-over World Cup could serve as a fitting conclusion to Rohit's illustrious career, which boasts nearly 12,000 ODI runs across 288 matches, including three double centuries.
