Feyenoord has officially parted ways with manager Robin van Persie after a brief tenure of just 16 months. The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker took charge in a challenging environment, securing a second-place finish in the Eredivisie and earning Champions League qualification during his only full season, although they finished 19 points behind champions PSV Eindhoven.

The decision comes shortly after the appointments of Devy Rigaux as technical director and Robert Eenhoorn as general manager. Rigaux acknowledged Van Persie's contributions, stating, "Robin van Persie has given everything for the club over the past 1.5 years. He certainly deserves credit for concluding a difficult season with a final second-place finish. This secured Champions League football, which is of course very important."

A thorough internal analysis led to the conclusion that a change was necessary. Rigaux emphasized the need for a new head coach to improve the team's style of play and address the declining points total in both European and domestic competitions.

Van Persie's connection to Feyenoord runs deep, having had two playing spells with the club, scoring 46 goals in 122 appearances. After retiring, he served as an assistant coach and worked with youth teams before briefly managing Heerenveen. His return to Feyenoord marked a significant chapter in his career, but ultimately, the club seeks a fresh direction as they prepare for the next season.
