The Republic of Ireland's Nations League fixture against Israel will now occur in Serbia, following a relocation from Dublin. Scheduled for 4 October, the match will be held at the TSC Arena in Backa Topola and will be played behind closed doors.

On 12 June, the Football Association of Ireland (FAI) announced the switch to a neutral venue after Uefa approved the request. This decision arose amid rising pressure to boycott the match, driven by protests outside the Dail (Irish parliament) and disruptions during the friendly against Qatar where tennis balls featuring the Palestine flag were thrown onto the pitch.

A campaign titled 'Stop the Game' has been initiated by Irish Sport for Palestine. Despite these pressures, the FAI emphasized the necessity of fulfilling the fixture to avoid significant repercussions, including the forfeiture of six points, potential relegation to League C in the Nations League, and adverse effects on the team's Uefa and Fifa rankings.

While the FAI noted that the Palestine FA respected the decision to move the game, the Palestine FA later clarified that it did not endorse or support the decision to proceed with the match, stating, "Any interpretation suggesting the PFA has given its blessing to the fixture does not accurately reflect our position."

The backdrop to this fixture includes the ongoing conflict following the Hamas-led attack on 7 October 2023, which resulted in significant casualties in Israel and Gaza. The reverse fixture, where Israel will be the home team, is set for 27 September at the Nagyerdei Stadion in Debrecen, Hungary.
