Real Madrid defender Raul Asencio has been acquitted by a Spanish court regarding allegations of distributing a sexually explicit video involving a minor. The 23-year-old was cleared of all charges in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria, with the court ruling that the accusations lacked sufficient evidence.

The case revolved around a video linked to an intimate encounter at a beach club in June 2023. While Asencio was found innocent, three of his former team-mates from the Real Madrid academy received minimum sentences. They were convicted on charges of "child pornography" and given a one-year suspended prison sentence, alongside mandatory attendance at a sexual re-education course and a two-year restraining order against the victims, who were 16 and 18 years old.

In his statement, Asencio expressed relief:

Today, after a long period of silence... I can say that I have been acquitted. I understand and respect the work of the media... but I also believe it's important to remember that behind every piece of news there is a person and a family.

In a separate matter, Real Madrid has initiated disciplinary proceedings against Asencio for a drink-driving conviction from August 16, where he was over three times the legal limit. This incident resulted in a fine and an eight-month suspension of his driving licence. Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho commented on the situation, stating, "...a Real Madrid player is a Real Madrid player for 24 hours, seven days a week... it hurts the club's prestige that is untouchable."

Asencio acknowledged his responsibility for the DUI, stating, "I am deeply sorry for what happened... I want to close this chapter with respect, with my head held high and with a great desire to move forward."
