Cammy Devlin opened up about the emotional turmoil surrounding his departure from Heart of Midlothian as he prepared for the World Cup. The 28-year-old midfielder described the period leading up to the tournament as "too stressful," particularly with his club future uncertain after a heartbreaking final-day loss to Celtic, which denied Hearts the Scottish title.

Devlin joined the Australian squad just three days after the defeat, grappling with the decision of whether to accept a new contract from Hearts amid interest from other clubs. The pivotal moment came when Derek McInnes transitioned from Hearts to Rangers, effectively shaping Devlin's career path.

In his first public comments since signing with Rangers, he reflected on the whirlwind of emotions:

The game was on the Saturday and I flew out to the World Cup on the Tuesday. It was devastating, but I didn't have much time to reflect. It was too stressful.

Despite not adding to his five caps during the World Cup, Devlin's future became clear a week after Australia's exit, when Hearts announced he would not renew his contract. Rangers quickly followed with an announcement of his signing.

Devlin highlighted his close relationship with McInnes, stating:

He was so good for me at Hearts and helped me so much as a player. When the opportunity came, it was one that was too good to pass up.

Acknowledging the difficulty of leaving Hearts, he expressed gratitude for the opportunities the club provided:

Hearts is such a special football club. Being a Rangers player is super special and something I never thought would happen.

Reflecting on last season's disappointment, he added, "Football is cruel sometimes... Hopefully I can go one better with Rangers."
