Rangers have appointed Derek McInnes as their new manager on a three-year deal following the departure of Danny Röhl. McInnes, who previously led Hearts to a dramatic second place in the Scottish Premiership, replaces Röhl, who has moved to RB Salzburg after a brief tenure at Ibrox.

The 54-year-old McInnes, a former player for Rangers from 1995 to 2000, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating, "It is a real honour to become the manager of Rangers." He acknowledged the high expectations from fans and emphasized the need for hard work to restore the club's status.

Andrew Cavenagh, the Rangers chairman, welcomed McInnes, highlighting his experience and success in Scottish football as key factors for his appointment. Cavenagh noted, "He knows how to win in this league and he is coming off an extremely strong season with Hearts."

Hearts have already initiated their search for McInnes' successor, confirming that they had identified potential candidates and aimed to appoint a new head coach swiftly.

The challenge for McInnes will be significant, as Rangers have only secured the Scottish Premiership title once since 2011. Former player Kris Boyd believes McInnes can meet these expectations, noting his ability to build competitive squads.

As part of a summer rebuild, Rangers have begun making signings, with Lawrence Shankland being the first confirmed addition, joining from Hearts after a successful season where he scored 20 goals. The club aims to enhance its squad further, with McInnes at the forefront of these efforts.
