Raheem Sterling is set to appear in court next month to face serious charges related to a car crash on the M3 in Hampshire. The incident occurred on the morning of Thursday, 28 May 2026, when the former England winger crashed his Lamborghini into motorway barriers.

Sterling, now 31 years old and previously playing for Feyenoord in the Dutch Eredivisie, has been charged with:

• Dangerous driving
• Possession of nitrous oxide for wrongful inhalation
• Failing to provide a specimen

According to a spokesman from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary, no other vehicles were involved in the crash, and there were no reported injuries. Sterling was arrested at the scene but has since been released on bail pending further enquiries.

He is scheduled to appear at Basingstoke magistrates court on 15 September. While police suspected him of driving under the influence of drugs, this charge has not been included in the current allegations. A source close to Sterling previously stated there was "no proof" of drugs in his system and noted that the player has faced significant personal challenges in recent years, feeling "worthless" and "forgotten about".

Sterling, who joined Feyenoord on a short-term contract after leaving Chelsea by mutual consent, has been without a club since the end of last season. His career highlights include four Premier League titles and multiple domestic cups during his time at Manchester City. Sterling earned 82 caps for England, participating in three World Cups and two European Championships.
