Scrum-half Raffi Quirke has expressed that departing from Sale Sharks marked one of the toughest choices of his career, but he is optimistic about the direction of the revamped Newcastle Red Bulls. Quirke is among 25 new arrivals at Kingston Park, as the club aims to improve after finishing bottom of the table for the last four seasons.

In a recent interview on the Rugby Union Weekly podcast, Quirke shared his thoughts on the move:

It was probably one of the hardest decisions that I've ever had to make - having those conversations with people who gave me my first ever opportunity.

• He emphasized the need for a new chapter in his career, stepping out of his comfort zone.

Quirke described the transition as exciting, noting that changes at Newcastle include new coaches and tougher fitness sessions. He remarked, "Everyone has been saying, 'this is what we have needed.'"

Acknowledging the challenges of integrating with a host of new teammates, Quirke stated:

We need to try and get connected as quickly as possible, both on and off the pitch.

• He highlighted the diversity among players from various countries, making the process of building relationships both exciting and essential.

Quirke also mentioned a team-building trip to Austria, which helped foster camaraderie among players. He noted that the new team dynamic feels inclusive, stating, "If there is an initiation, the whole team will be doing it!"

With a clear vision for the future, Quirke is ready to contribute to Newcastle's revival and forge a winning culture from the ground up.
