English teams have achieved a historic milestone by reaching the finals of three different European competitions in the same season for the first time.

Arsenal secured their spot in the Champions League final with a 2-1 aggregate victory against Atletico Madrid on Tuesday. Following their lead, Aston Villa and Crystal Palace also clinched their final berths later in the week.

• Aston Villa, under the guidance of Unai Emery, overturned a 1-0 first leg defeat to defeat Nottingham Forest 4-1 on aggregate on Thursday. They will face Freiburg in the Europa League final on 20 May in Istanbul.

• Simultaneously, Crystal Palace built on their 3-1 victory against Shakhtar Donetsk with a 2-1 win in the second leg at Selhurst Park. They are set to meet Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League final on 27 May.

The Conference League, established five years ago, serves as European football's third competition, following the discontinuation of the Cup Winners' Cup in 1999.

Last season, English clubs nearly reached all three finals, with Chelsea winning the Conference League and Tottenham defeating Manchester United in the Europa League final. However, Arsenal was the last English team in the Champions League, falling to eventual winners Paris St-Germain in the semifinals.

Historically, the Premier League has had multiple teams in the finals of the Champions League and Europa League. Notable instances include:

• 2021: Chelsea defeated Manchester City in an all-Premier League Champions League final.
• 2019: Liverpool triumphed over Tottenham Hotspur in the Champions League final, while Chelsea bested Arsenal in the Europa League final.

The last time English clubs secured two of the three competitions was over 20 years ago, in 1984, when Liverpool and Tottenham emerged victorious in their respective finals.
