The Diamond League meeting in Paris is set to proceed in a modified format this Sunday, despite local police initially calling for all sporting events to be cancelled due to the extreme heat. This follows Wednesday's record-setting temperatures in France, with an average national temperature reaching 30°C. The forecast predicts highs of 39°C on Saturday and 32°C on Sunday.

In a statement released on Friday, the Paris police prohibited all sporting competitions and warned organizers that noncompliance could lead to cancellation by decree. However, the Diamond League confirmed that the event would take place with an adjusted schedule, implementing exceptional measures to address the extreme heat.

Key adjustments for the event include:

• Only professional athletes participating in the competition
• Cancellation of all activities for athletics clubs, licensed members, and regional competitions

The French Athletics Federation has been closely monitoring the situation in collaboration with government authorities, emphasizing that the safety of all involved—athletes, coaches, volunteers, officials, and spectators—remains the top priority.

Notable British athletes competing include Matthew Hudson-Smith (400m), Jeremiah Azu (100m), Ben Pattison (800m), and Jake Wightman (1500m). In the women's 1500m, Georgia Hunter Bell and Katie Snowden are also set to race.

Additionally, Saturday's Top 14 rugby final between Toulouse and Montpellier is scheduled for 21:05 CEST, but no alcohol sales will be allowed around or inside the Stade de France, and the under-17 final at 17:30 has been cancelled.
