Interim Pakistan head coach Mike Hesson acknowledged that his players are accustomed to "chaos" following significant squad changes ahead of the final Test against England. After losing the first two Tests, Pakistan made sweeping alterations, dropping seven players and calling up seven new faces, while also appointing Hesson as the interim head coach, replacing Sarfaraz Ahmed.

Hesson, who was in Japan for the Asian Games, had initially planned to travel to the UK for the squad's audience with King Charles on Wednesday, 9 September. His role shifted dramatically as he took charge of the Test team just before the match at Edgbaston.

Reflecting on the situation, Hesson remarked:

The last couple of days have been challenging with players coming and going. The guys are probably more used to a little bit of chaos than I am. They have been incredibly disappointed.

Key players dropped include batters Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha, along with wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan. Changes to the bowling lineup followed, with Ali Usman and Khurram Shahzad released after the first two Tests. New additions to the squad include:

• Batters Saim Ayub and Abdullah Fazal
• Five uncapped players: Arafat Minhas, Mohammed Imran Jr, Said Baig, Mohammad Imran, and Razaullah.

Hesson emphasized the need for a balanced squad, noting that Pakistan's traditional strengths in pace and spin have not been effectively utilized. Following wet weather, the team trained indoors at Edgbaston, with several new arrivals participating.

In response to rumors regarding Salman Ali Agha's absence from the royal meeting, Hesson clarified that the decision was made prior to his arrival, dismissing the speculation as "unacceptable journalism". Hesson's focus remains on preparing a competitive squad for the upcoming Test, despite the turmoil surrounding the team.
