With 3:33 remaining in the game, she positioned herself to take a charge from Ogwumike, who was driving the ball across halfcourt as the Sparks trailed by just four points. A trip by Wings' guard Azzi Fudd caused Ogwumike to crash into Bueckers' knee, leading to a hard fall where Bueckers hit her head on the court.

Both players remained on the floor for several minutes in visible pain, while teammates surrounded them with towels to shield them from cameras. Eventually, both managed to rise on their own and shared an embrace before Bueckers walked to the locker room, while Ogwumike returned to the bench for treatment on her already-wrapped right hand.

Wings coach Jose Fernandez reported that Bueckers was joking with Fudd about the incident, indicating her resilience despite the injury. The game highlighted ongoing concerns regarding the physicality and officiating in the WNBA, with injuries reportedly on the rise this season.

Looking ahead, the Sparks, who concluded a four-game road trip with their fourth consecutive loss, will host the Phoenix Mercury on Wednesday. The Wings, on the other hand, are set to play a make-up game against the New York Liberty on Monday, following a postponement due to travel issues.
