The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has confirmed it will maintain its spring-to-fall calendar through the 2030 season, allowing more time to evaluate a potential switch to a fall-to-spring schedule. This decision follows recent discussions during the board of governors meetings in Portland, Oregon, where a formal vote on the calendar change was deemed unlikely.

In an official statement, the NWSL emphasized:

• The league will operate under its current schedule until 2030.
• Extensive evaluations and collaboration with stakeholders influenced this decision.
• The NWSL aims to provide stability and build on the momentum it has achieved.

Although discussions about flipping the calendar have intensified, especially with the upcoming Women's World Cup in 2031, no consensus has emerged among board members. Commissioner Jessica Berman acknowledged the ongoing exploration of this topic, but the NWSL Players Association expressed skepticism, highlighting that a majority of players currently oppose the change, citing concerns about facilities in colder markets.

Meghann Burke, Executive Director of the NWSLPA, praised the decision to maintain the current calendar, emphasizing the importance of prioritizing player health and safety. The players' union reiterated that the right conditions for a calendar flip do not exist at this time.

Historically, the NWSL's decision to delay mirrors the MLS, which took years to finalize its own calendar transition. If the NWSL opts for a calendar change, it would need to notify the players' association at least a year in advance, as stipulated by their collective bargaining agreement.
