Nottingham Forest manager Oliver Glasner expressed his frustration over the video assistant referee (VAR) decision that ruled out Neco Williams' goal during their 0-0 draw against Tottenham Hotspur at the City Ground.

In the 67th minute, Williams scored what he believed to be a legitimate goal after a scramble in the Spurs box, but the referee's initial decision was overturned by VAR. Glasner argued that the VAR's intervention was based on guesswork, stating, "I watched five or six different angles and, to be fair, from one angle you can guess that the ball touched the arm... but it's not clear."

He emphasized that VAR should only intervene in cases of "clear and obvious" errors, criticizing the inconsistency of the ruling. Glasner conveyed his belief to the referee that the goal should have stood, reinforcing the point that the threshold for VAR decisions should remain high.

The official explanation from the Premier League's match centre confirmed that VAR determined Williams handled the ball before scoring, as per the rules stating any contact with the arm disallows the goal, even if accidental.

Williams himself disputed the ruling, asserting, "It's a goal... I've seen the images and the replays and at not one moment did I think I handballed it. I headed it in between my arms."

This incident has sparked further debate over the effectiveness and application of VAR in the Premier League.
