Northern Ireland captain Rebecca McKenna expressed optimism about the team's future under new manager Michael McArdle, who has injected a sense of rejuvenation since his appointment on 1 April. McArdle has led the squad to two wins in three matches, showcasing his positive impact early in his tenure.

Despite a recent defeat to Turkey in Istanbul, which confirmed their position to finish third in Group B2, the team has secured a crucial play-off spot for the 2027 World Cup later this autumn.

McKenna highlighted the team's evolving dynamic:

We're still getting to know him and he's still getting to know us, but since he's come in, it's been a breath of fresh air. He's really bought into it and everyone here has also bought into it. It's exciting for the future.

Reflecting on the aspirations of the squad, McKenna emphasized the collective goal to compete at another major tournament, drawing inspiration from their historic participation in Euro 2022. She stated:

When we qualified for the Euros, it was a great feeling. You get a feeling of being at one major tournament. It gives you that feeling to get there again.
