This remarkable performance not only earned him the title but also matched his personal best, which he achieved while winning gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris.

The event took place at Icahn Stadium in New York City, where Lyles outpaced his competitors. The previous best time for the 100m in 2026 was 9.82 seconds, set by Oblique Seville of Jamaica in June. Lyles confidently stated, "I think I made that 'I'm still the world's fastest man' statement."

Finishing behind Lyles were:

• Ronnie Baker and Kenny Bednarek, both clocking 9.88 seconds for second and third place, respectively.
• Former world champion Christian Coleman finished fourth with a time of 9.93 seconds.

Lyles emphasized that despite this being an off year without an Olympics or World Championships, he remains committed to excellence:

Just because it is an off year doesn't mean that I plan to run slow. This is me being me and being me is dominant, being consistent.

In the women's 100m, Sha'Carri Richardson, the 2023 world champion, triumphed with a time of 10.77 seconds, matching her seasonal best. She expressed her satisfaction, saying, "It just feels phenomenal to be back in a better place, just healthy mentally, physically and emotionally. Everything me and coach have been working on, it's starting to show consistently."

Kayla White finished second with 10.90 seconds, while Tamari Davis secured third place in 11.00 seconds.
