Scarlets have appointed Nigel Davies as their new director of rugby for the next two seasons. This decision comes after the former Wales centre returned to Llanelli on an interim basis in January, stepping in above head coach Dwayne Peel during a challenging first half of the season.

Initially at the bottom of the United Rugby Championship (URC) standings, Scarlets managed to climb above Zebre and Dragons. With seven new signings and an expanded backroom staff, Davies is now confirmed as the head of the rugby program.

Reflecting on his new role, Davies stated, "Scarlets has been a huge part of my life for more than 40 years and to be given the opportunity to lead the rugby programme at such an important time in the club's history is something I am enormously proud and honoured to do."

The Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) is set to reduce the number of men's professional teams from four to three by 2028, and Davies has secured a contract through that year. He has already strengthened the squad, which includes seven players named in Wales' summer squad, with key signings:

• Corey Domachowski from Cardiff
• Cullen Grace from Crusaders
• Isaac Murray-MacGregor from Canterbury

In addition, Scarlets have renewed contracts for influential players like Fletcher Anderson, Josh Macleod, Sam Lousi, and former Wales scrum-half Gareth Davies. Eamon O'Carroll will join as defence coach, and Aaron Dundon will take on the role of forwards coach.

Davies emphasized the hard work put into strengthening the squad and aligning the coaching team with a clear vision. He expressed confidence in the commitment of players, coaches, and staff to build a team that supporters can believe in and be proud of.

Scarlets will kick off the 2026-27 URC season at home against Cardiff on Saturday, 26 September, followed by a derby match against Dragons in round two.
