Newport County has officially appointed Hayden Mullins, previously the Fulham Under-21 boss, as their new manager. This decision comes after the club remained without a permanent leader since the unexpected departure of Christian Fuchs in late June.

Following Fuchs' exit—who notably won the Premier League title with Leicester City in 2015-16—Chris Todd served as the interim manager. During his time, Todd oversaw a series of pre-season friendlies against teams such as Bristol Manor Farm, Newport City, Gloucester City, and Reading. Despite the changes, Todd is expected to remain at Newport County.

When Fuchs took over as Dave Hughes' successor in November last year, Newport found themselves four points adrift of safety in League Two. Under Fuchs, the team managed to secure their position in the league, but he left just before the pre-season of the 2026-27 campaign.

Mullins’ appointment marks the third consecutive summer of managerial changes at Rodney Parade. He is the fourth permanent manager appointed by owner Huw Jenkins since his takeover in January 2024, following Nelson Jardim, Hughes, and Fuchs.

A former England Under-21 international, Mullins has an extensive playing background with clubs like Crystal Palace, West Ham United, and Portsmouth. He transitioned into coaching in 2016 with Watford’s youth system and has had various roles, including a brief managerial stint with the Turks and Caicos Islands national team in 2023. In his recent role with Fulham, he led the under-21s to a remarkable 4-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur Under-21s in the Premier League Cup final.
