Newcastle United has reportedly entered the race to sign Tyler Morton, the highly-rated England midfielder currently impressing at Lyon. Following his permanent move from Liverpool in 2025, the 23-year-old has become a pivotal player for Lyon, drawing attention from several Premier League clubs ahead of the January transfer window.

As per TEAMtalk, Newcastle is among seven Premier League clubs monitoring Morton, which includes notable names such as Liverpool, Everton, Sunderland, Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace, and Brighton.

• Transfer Details: Morton transferred to Lyon for an initial £10 million, potentially rising to £15 million, with Liverpool retaining a 20% sell-on clause.
• Current Form: He has participated in all five of Lyon’s Ligue 1 matches this season, accumulating 366 league minutes, showcasing his versatility in both deeper and central midfield roles.

Despite the interest, Lyon's reluctance to part ways with Morton midway through the season poses a significant hurdle. As reported, the French club values his contributions highly and is not pressured to sell, given his contract runs until 2030.

From Newcastle's perspective, Morton represents a strategic long-term signing, possessing an understanding of English football and entering his prime years after gaining valuable experience in Ligue 1. While it's uncertain if Newcastle will convert their interest into a formal bid, Morton’s name is set to be a prominent topic in upcoming transfer discussions.
