Newcastle United has officially signed Aladji Bamba from Monaco in a deal that could reach £34 million. The 20-year-old midfielder expressed his excitement about joining the club, stating, "I’m very happy to be here. I was very excited when I heard Newcastle were interested in signing me. I know about the history of the club and I’ve visited the stadium, which is amazing. I can’t wait to be on the pitch."

Bamba, who has signed a five-year contract, is the fourth signing for Newcastle this summer and notably, all four players are aged 20 or under. Last season, he made 25 appearances for Monaco, showcasing his talent in both Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He joins a youthful squad that includes:

• Ewen Jaouen (20, goalkeeper)
• Bazoumana Touré (20, winger)
• Sean Steur (18, midfielder)

As a natural No 6, Bamba is expected to compete with Lewis Miley for the midfield anchor role, especially after Sandro Tonali's departure to Tottenham for an initial £92.5 million.

Newcastle's transfer strategy focuses on acquiring players aged 24 or under, costing between £20 million and £40 million, to ensure compliance with financial regulations after a recent settlement with Uefa. Manager Eddie Howe praised Bamba, stating, "Aladji adds a range of qualities to our midfield with huge potential for growth. His development since breaking through at Monaco has been really impressive and is something we believe we can build on."

In another development, Howe is eager for Bruno Guimarães to remain at Newcastle to assist Bamba's transition into the Premier League. Guimarães is attracting interest from Arsenal, but Newcastle has indicated they would reject any offers around £70 million for their captain. Arsenal has yet to make a formal bid, and the situation may change depending on Guimarães' return from Brazil.
