Newcastle United has officially signed Sean Steur, an 18-year-old midfielder from Ajax, with a transfer fee that could rise to £23 million. This acquisition comes as the club looks to rebuild following the departures of high-profile players this summer.

The club recently saw Anthony Gordon, an England international, leave for Barcelona in a £70 million deal, while Sandro Tonali moved to Tottenham for a staggering £100 million. The loss of these key players has prompted Newcastle to seek younger talent to rejuvenate their squad.

In addition to Steur, Newcastle is reportedly closing in on Johan Manzambi, a 20-year-old midfielder who gained attention during the World Cup with Switzerland, despite suffering a knee injury in training. Manzambi previously had a strong season with Freiburg, a Europa League finalist.

The club also signed another promising young player, Bazoumana Touré, a winger from Hoffenheim, for approximately £42 million.

Amidst these signings, speculation surrounds Bruno Guimaraes, who has expressed a desire to leave for Arsenal after Brazil's exit from the World Cup. If Guimaraes departs, he would be the third significant player to exit St James’ Park this summer.

With Newcastle finishing 12th in the Premier League and missing out on European football, the club faces a crucial summer as they aim to rebuild after previously selling Alexander Isak to Liverpool for £125 million. Last season, the team struggled, relying heavily on William Osula in the final weeks, marking their first bottom-half finish since 2022.
