Matthias Jaissle, the new head coach of Newcastle United, reflects on his life-changing experiences, beginning with a tumor he battled at just five years old. This early health scare taught him invaluable lessons about health and gratitude, shaping his resilience as he pursued his dream of becoming a professional footballer.

Despite a promising career that included aspirations for a German national team call-up, Jaissle faced a devastating knee injury at age 20, forcing him to retire by 2014. He candidly shared that this period left him in a dark place, but the challenges he faced ultimately made him stronger and more determined.

Jaissle's coaching career began unexpectedly when Ralf Rangnick, his former manager, invited him to a training program at RB Leipzig. Initially, he was set to rotate through various departments but quickly found joy in coaching youth players. This revelation led him to climb the coaching ladder, achieving success with Red Bull Salzburg and Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League.

At Newcastle, Jaissle stepped into a challenging situation, succeeding Eddie Howe with just three weeks to prepare for a crucial match against Liverpool. The team underwent significant changes, including the departure of captain Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal and a shift to a younger squad with eight new signings.

Despite a tough start, including a 4-1 loss at Leeds United, Jaissle remains optimistic. He acknowledges the need for improvement but believes in his aggressive style of play. With the support of the fans and a commitment to his vision, Jaissle has quickly settled into life on Tyneside, even celebrating a supporter’s birthday after a recent 2-1 victory against Hull City. His journey showcases his resilience and passion for the game, promising an exciting future for Newcastle.
