The NBA futures markets are buzzing following Jaylen Brown's trade to the Philadelphia 76ers, as public sentiment strongly favors the deal. The Boston Celtics' decision to send Brown to Philly in exchange for Paul George and draft picks has not inspired the same enthusiasm.

Since the trade was announced by ESPN's Shams Charania on Wednesday afternoon, the 76ers' odds to win the NBA title have significantly improved, dropping from +5500 to +2000 as of July 3. This places them among the top contenders, trailing only the San Antonio Spurs (+270), Oklahoma City Thunder (+270), New York Knicks (+850), and the Celtics (+1300).

In the Eastern Conference, the 76ers' odds have also shifted dramatically, now sitting at +750, a decrease from +1900 earlier in the week. They currently rank behind the Knicks (+320) and Celtics (+425) in the race for the division title, where their odds improved from +1800 to +500.

The trade sends the 2024 NBA Finals MVP, Brown, to Philadelphia, where he joins a potent lineup featuring Tyrese Maxey, who ranked fifth in scoring last season, and Joel Embiid, a consistent scoring threat despite injury concerns. Additionally, 20-year-old VJ Edgecombe shows promise after a strong rookie season.

Conversely, the Celtics' return for Brown has left futures bettors underwhelmed. Boston’s odds to win the title plummeted from +650 to +1100, while their Eastern Conference odds rose to +425 from +230 and Atlantic Division odds increased to +180 from -110.

The trade could also complicate team dynamics, as tensions may arise from past comments Brown made about Embiid being a flopper after their playoff matchup two months ago.
