National League South club Ebbsfleet United has been suspended from competition due to unpaid debts, resulting in the postponement of their first three fixtures of the 2026-27 season.

The National League confirmed the suspension following a meeting of its Compliance and Licensing Committee, stating the club was unable "to meet its financial obligations throughout the season". The decision was made after careful consideration, with a review scheduled for 19 August.

As a direct consequence of this suspension, Ebbsfleet United FC will not be able to fulfill the following opening fixtures:

• Slough Town (Saturday)
• Folkestone Invicta at Kuflink Stadium on 15 August
• Away match against Chelmsford City on 17 August

The club is currently seeking a takeover by a consortium led by John O’Leary, a businessman from Dublin, while facing a HMRC winding-up order. In a statement, the club expressed that this situation is a shock to their players, management, staff, and supporters.

Ebbsfleet, who were relegated from the National League in 2024/25, indicated they had communicated with the League, proposing that the HMRC debt would be settled by the end of August, contingent upon the completion of the ownership transfer.

This financial turmoil follows the government's refusal of plans for a new 8,000-seater stadium and 3,500 homes in the area, citing concerns over lead pollution and job security.
