Nahuel Molina, the 28-year-old Argentine right-back, is on the brink of leaving Atlético Madrid for Roma as both clubs reach a verbal agreement on a transfer fee. Reports indicate that the deal, valued at approximately €18 million, could be finalized within the week, with Molina already agreeing to personal terms.

The structure of the transfer involves a fixed fee plus performance-related bonuses estimated between €3 million and €4 million. Notably, Fabrizio Romano has tracked these figures, while Gianluca Di Marzio confirms a fixed fee of €13 million with up to €4 million in add-ons. Molina is set to sign a contract through mid-2029, earning about €3 million annually.

Molina joined Atlético from Udinese in 2022 for around €12 million, meaning the anticipated €18 million exit yields a modest profit after 181 official appearances, nine goals, and 17 assists over four seasons. Despite being a World Cup winner, he leaves without a trophy in Atlético's colors, having added the Finalissima and Copa América to his honors.

Atlético's decision to let Molina go stems from a shift in his status within the squad. Director of football Mateu Alemany deemed him transferable, and coach Diego Simeone has not considered him essential, especially with Molina falling behind Marcos Llorente and Marc Pubill in the lineup. His limited appearances in the 2025-26 season made the sale easier for the club, which looks to prioritize acquiring a top-level centre-back.

For Roma, Molina addresses a need at right-back with his established Serie A experience, having previously recorded 10 goals and 10 assists in 68 appearances for Udinese. He joins a growing Argentine contingent at the club, including Paulo Dybala, Matías Soulé, and new signing Santiago Castro.

Pending any last-minute complications, Molina's transfer is expected to be completed this week, with Boca Juniors, his youth club, set to receive around €500,000 through the solidarity mechanism once the transfer is registered.
