Scotland's Laura Muir is set to compete in the 5,000m at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, aiming to enhance her endurance ahead of major events leading up to the 2028 Olympics.

At 33 years old, Muir previously clinched 1500m gold for Scotland during the 2022 Games in Birmingham. However, the 1500m event is not featured at the Scotstoun Stadium this summer, prompting her decision to tackle a longer distance.

Muir commented on her strategy:

Doing the 5k hopefully makes my endurance that a little bit stronger and hopefully help that 1500m. [The] 1500m is getting tougher and tougher; the event is getting so strong now. I just want to try and be as strong as possible for these next two years.

She views this as a pivotal year for experimentation, with the world championships approaching next year and the Olympic Games looming in 2028. This shift not only signifies a change in her competitive strategy but also reflects her commitment to adapt and thrive in a challenging athletic landscape.
