These measures include a large restricted zone and additional access controls after chaos erupted during a watch party at Bryant Park after Game 3, resulting in arrests and assaults on officers.

In a strongly worded statement titled "Mayor Mamdani and Police Commissioner Tisch Are New York City’s Biggest Party Poopers," Madison Square Garden Sports (MSG Sports) expressed its discontent. The statement highlighted the joy of Knicks fans during past celebrations, stating:

The last several victories the Knicks have had have been celebrated by thousands and thousands outside MSG.

MSG Sports argued that the ongoing restrictions are unjustified and hurt the celebration atmosphere, impacting small businesses reliant on game-day crowds. They claimed the decision to maintain the perimeter for Game 4 serves as a convenient excuse to limit fan celebrations.

The NYPD confirmed that MSG's permit request for the watch party proposed a crowd limit of 500 to 1,000 attendees, which was approved at the maximum of 1,000. This follows a chaotic scene on Monday night where fights broke out, leading to 21 arrests and injuries to five police officers. Videos circulated online showing violence against fans wearing Spurs apparel.

In response, Mamdani urged New Yorkers to celebrate responsibly, emphasizing:

We will not allow it to be disrupted by violence.

For Game 4, entry into the restricted area will be limited to individuals with game tickets, train tickets, or proof of residence, with all attendees undergoing screening at a designated access point. Notably, Donald Trump is not expected to attend the game.
