Oscar Piastri has expressed his concerns regarding a potential "tricky precedent" as McLaren appeals the results of the Monaco Grand Prix. The appeal follows the reinstatement of Alpine's Pierre Gasly to the podium after a successful challenge against his speeding penalties.

Earlier this month, Alpine provided evidence that the pit lane distance in Monaco was incorrectly measured, leading to inaccuracies in the drivers' speeds. As a result, Gasly was returned to third place, pushing Red Bull's Isack Hadjar to fourth and Piastri to fifth.

Piastri noted that other drivers, including George Russell, Lewis Hamilton, and Franco Colapinto, had already served their penalties during a Safety Car period, which prevented them from appealing like Alpine did. He stated:

"I've never seen a race like that, where there's so many pit lane speeding penalties... the risk that we have now is any time a team or a driver feels that a penalty is potentially wrong, you go through this whole cycle where we still don't officially know the results of the race a month later."

Gasly, who received his third-place trophy after a two-week wait, commented on the situation, emphasizing the need for corrections in the sport. He said:

"For the good of the sport, we don't want to see that happen again in the future... if you can correct a mistake which was done, it's the right way of approaching it."

Both Piastri and Gasly acknowledged the complexities of the situation, with Piastri agreeing that while corrections are important, they could lead to teams avoiding penalties and prolonging disputes. The FIA has yet to announce a date for the appeals, likely extending the uncertainty surrounding the race results.
