With just two-and-a-half weeks until the Aug. 3 MLB trade deadline, the New York Mets are gearing up for significant changes. After a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on July 17, the Mets' disappointing performance in the first half of the 2026 season has prompted them to consider a major sell-off.

According to Chelsea Janes of SNY, a rival executive revealed that the Mets have informed their roster that a sale is imminent. Only young stars Carson Benge, A.J. Ewing, Christian Scott, Nolan McLean, and Juan Soto are deemed untouchable, signaling a long-term strategy shift. This means that nearly every other player is available for trade discussions.

The notable exceptions include veteran shortstop Francisco Lindor and offseason acquisition Bo Bichette. Lindor is having a subpar season and is owed over $170 million through 2023, making him a challenging trade candidate. Similarly, Bichette's disappointing performance and contract complexity, including a $42 million player option for the next two seasons, complicate his marketability.

Several players, however, may find themselves on the move, especially in a market lacking sellers:

• Freddy Peralta (walk year)
• Clay Holmes (currently on the IL)
• Luke Weaver (strong market)
• Devin Williams (change-of-scenery candidate)
• Brooks Raley, A.J. Minter, and Huascar Brazobán (appealing relievers)

Additionally, Francisco Alvarez, the 24-year-old catcher, is not classified as untouchable, making him a potential trade asset. As the deadline approaches, expect David Stearns and the Mets to be active in reshaping their roster as they look to the future.
