UCLA men’s basketball is set to welcome Nikola Kusturica, a highly touted forward from Serbia, who many project as a potential No. 1 pick in the 2028 NBA Draft. Following a standout performance in the FIBA U17 World Cup, where he scored 37 points against Team USA in the finals, Kusturica committed to UCLA over other elite programs like Michigan and Kentucky.

In an interview with CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, head coach Mick Cronin discussed his expectations for Kusturica, emphasizing the need for patience as the freshman acclimates to the collegiate level. "I think I've got to protect him... Leave the guy alone, let him do his thing. He's going to have ups and downs," Cronin stated, acknowledging the pressures that come with being a top recruit.

Kusturica, standing at 6-foot-8, is not only known for his scoring ability but also for his exceptional passing skills, which Cronin highlighted as a significant asset. "The ability to find people over the top with his vision is a huge weapon," he remarked.

This offseason, UCLA has been proactive in enhancing its roster, landing Kusturica as a key addition. Prior to his commitment, the Bruins struggled to make a mark, sitting unranked in the AP Top 25. With Kusturica, they are projected to enter the season ranked No. 17.

Cronin has also retained several players from last season, including Xavier Booker, Trent Perry, and Eric Dailey Jr., showcasing his ability to maintain continuity within the program. As UCLA prepares to compete in the Big Ten, Cronin aims to elevate the team's performance and ultimately return to greatness.
