While Laurent Mekies, the Red Bull team principal, along with representatives from Mercedes and Lagrue himself, declined to comment on the transition, negotiations are ongoing for Lagrue's release from his current contract with Mercedes.

At Mercedes, Lagrue's departure will trigger a minor reshuffle within their highly effective young-driver programme. Bradley Lord, recently promoted to deputy team principal, will likely play a significant role in this transition. Mercedes currently employs a team of up to 10 analysts focused on scouting emerging talent from karting to higher levels of competition.

Lagrue's decade-long tenure at Mercedes is marked by significant achievements, including the recruitment of George Russell, who famously presented a PowerPoint to Toto Wolff to join the junior programme. Lagrue also played a pivotal role in signing Antonelli when he was just 11 years old. Now, at 19, Antonelli is excelling in the F1 world championship, leading with five wins and six pole positions this season.

Additionally, Lagrue has supported notable drivers such as Esteban Ocon and Alex Albon, further cementing his legacy in driver development within Formula 1.
