Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has expressed skepticism regarding Ferrari's ability to sustain their aggressive car development amid the constraints of Formula 1's budget cap, suggesting they may soon exhaust their financial resources.

As the new regulation era unfolds, teams have been rolling out aerodynamic updates almost weekly, significantly influencing the competition. Currently, Ferrari sits second in the Constructors' Championship, following Mercedes, with Lewis Hamilton's victory at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix marking the only occasion the Silver Arrows have been surpassed this season.

• Ferrari's recent performance was bolstered by an eight-item aerodynamic upgrade for their SF-26 car.
• They previously introduced three updates at the Monaco Grand Prix and four more at the Austrian Grand Prix, although the latter proved challenging.

In contrast, Mercedes has implemented just four changes since their significant update at the Canadian Grand Prix four races ago.

Wolff pointed out that all teams must adhere to a yearly budget cap of $215 million for 2026, implying that Ferrari may soon run out of funds. He remarked, "In my opinion they need to be running out of money soon, cost cap money, because we can't do that."

Additionally, Ferrari introduced their first revised engine of the year in Austria, while Mercedes has one upgrade opportunity this season but currently has no plans for further updates.

Wolff noted the competitive landscape, stating, "The only ones who are not slowing down is Ferrari." He anticipates that the rules should apply equally to all teams as the season progresses.
