McLaren confirmed they will introduce a "significant upgrade package" during the upcoming double-header of races in Belgium and Hungary before the Formula 1 summer break. The reigning constructors' champions have struggled this season, currently sitting 154 points behind leaders Mercedes after nine rounds.

The team's performance has been disappointing, with their only podium in the last five races occurring when Lando Norris secured third place in Barcelona. McLaren has struggled to keep pace with rivals Mercedes and Ferrari.

In their official preview for the Belgian Grand Prix, McLaren announced:

• Introduction of a new rear wing to be tested during Friday's practice sessions at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps.
• Fitting of a new ICE unit, the third of the season, supplied by Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains, aimed at improving reliability.

While McLaren hopes for immediate improvements in Belgium, they anticipate more substantial upgrades for the Hungarian Grand Prix the following week. Neil Houldey, McLaren's technical director, tempered expectations, stating they aren't "expecting any big change" in performance at Spa, but are optimistic about enhancing the car's capabilities.

On the other hand, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff expressed concerns about reliability issues affecting championship leader Kimi Antonelli, who has faced setbacks in recent races. He emphasized the need to convert potential into results, especially with the competitive nature of the current season.

The double-header races are crucial as they precede a four-week break, with both teams aiming to maximize their performance and secure valuable points.
