Matthias Jaissle steps into his new role at Newcastle United with ambition, emphasizing that progress will not be immediate. Following a turbulent summer where Eddie Howe departed after a four-and-a-half-year tenure, the club also saw the exit of key players: Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, and Anthony Gordon.

Jaissle pointed out the club's shift in recruitment strategy, focusing on youthful talent. Recent signings such as Bazoumana Toure, Sean Steur, and Aladji Bamba, all under 22, reflect this new direction. Despite the squad lacking experience due to these changes, Jaissle remains positive.

In his unveiling at St James’ Park, the 38-year-old German manager stated:

We are ambitious. That’s the most important thing, also why I decided to come here. But this will not happen overnight.

• He acknowledged the loss of experienced players, describing it as a "vacuum" that others must fill.

Jaissle emphasized the importance of seeing opportunities in challenges, stating, "It’s a big challenge... but it’s no time to complain."

As part of his preparations, Jaissle conducted a training camp in La Manga, Spain, where his side secured a 2-1 victory against Valencia. He now focuses on an upcoming friendly against Everton in Edinburgh, as well as potential reinforcements, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg from Marseille linked to a move.

Jaissle has yet to name a replacement for Guimaraes as captain but is optimistic about the squad's potential. He mentioned:

Other players need to step in... my job is to do the best out of it.

He aims to maximize the talents of players like Nick Woltemade, who faced difficulties last season. Jaissle concluded, "We find solutions, we do our best. Not only with Nick, with all the other players as well."
