The allocation was confirmed shortly after the Scottish FA mandated that both clubs must play their next Scottish Cup home games behind closed doors due to past crowd disorder incidents.

In a previous meeting, around 8,000 away fans attended the Scottish Cup quarter-final, highlighting the stark contrast in ticketing rules between cup and league matches. O'Neill stated, "We might as well not get any, if that's the case," emphasizing the significance of having away fans present to enhance the atmosphere of what he called one of the great fixtures in football.

O'Neill's remarks came after Celtic secured a 2-1 victory over Falkirk, where Camilo Duran scored twice, despite a nervy finish due to an own goal by Colby Donovan. The win was crucial for Celtic, especially after the fan backlash regarding their recent exit from the Champions League play-offs against LASK.

Surprisingly, O'Neill noted that the fans greeted the team with cheers upon their arrival, a gesture he found unexpected given the team's recent struggles.
