Ricky Ponting has expressed serious concerns over Marnus Labuschagne's position in the Australia Test team, labeling it as "almost untenable". This statement comes after Labuschagne's disappointing performance in the recent 1-1 series draw against Bangladesh, where he managed scores of 1, 31, and 4.

The 32-year-old batter has not scored a Test century in his last 43 innings, with his last ton coming during the 2023 Ashes Test against England. As Australia prepares for a three-Test series in South Africa starting October 9, Ponting emphasized the need for changes, particularly at No 3 in the batting order.

Ponting noted:

This has been a very dominant side for a long period, but they have been carrying a few guys.
