Manchester United remains optimistic about their ability to compete for major honors, despite financial constraints that limit their spending compared to rivals. This summer, United invested £148m in new players, significantly less than the £300m spent by both Chelsea and Tottenham, and far behind Manchester City, which set a record with £458m.

In their recent match against Ipswich, Liverpool fielded players like Alexander Isak, Bradley Barcola, and Florian Wirtz, each costing over £100m. United's most expensive signing, Carlos Baleba, came from Brighton for a potential £70m, still trailing the club-record of £89m paid for Paul Pogba a decade ago.

Head coach Michael Carrick asserts that financial power alone does not guarantee success. He emphasizes the importance of team dynamics and balance, stating, "I certainly feel we can… getting the best players in the group to enhance the rest."

Despite criticism regarding the lack of a left-back and forward support, Carrick has dismissed claims of restrictions on summer spending. He acknowledges the impact of United's debt, which has raised concerns among fans. Financial blogger Swiss Ramble estimated that the club has paid £852m in interest since the Glazer family's takeover in 2005. Currently, total borrowings stand at £1.29bn, with additional debts incurred for refinancing bonds.

Omar Berrada, the club's chief executive, insists that United can remain competitive while managing debt and pursuing a new stadium. He stated, "Our aim is to do that again… to operate competitively with a financial structure that's sustainable."

With the arrival of new players, including Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans, along with the emergence of Shea Lacey, Carrick feels the squad is better positioned than last season, where they finished third. He believes the club must strive for consistent success, noting, "Being at this club, you've got to strive to win."
