Manchester United faces a potential setback in their pursuit of Rafael Leão, as the AC Milan forward has been offered to AS Roma. This development comes as agent Jorge Mendes seeks a new club for his client amidst United's long-standing interest.

The 27-year-old Portuguese international has shown a desire to explore opportunities outside Serie A, with the Premier League among his top choices. However, Roma’s interest presents another viable option that could push United to act swiftly if they remain serious about acquiring Leão.

According to journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Mendes proposed Leão directly to Roma’s ownership as Milan looks for a resolution ahead of the transfer deadline. Notably, Milan's asking price has decreased from approximately €50 million plus €10 million in bonuses to about €40 million with add-ons, which could capture United's attention.

Previously, talkSPORT indicated that Leão had also been offered to Manchester United, Arsenal, and Leeds United, but no deal progressed due to financial constraints. Now, Roma is in a position to capitalize on United's hesitance.

For Manchester United, allowing Leão to join Roma for around €40 million would be frustrating. Although manager Michael Carrick doesn’t urgently need another winger, Leão's unique qualities—his pace, power, and individual creativity—could make him a game-changer, especially in Champions League matches.
