Manchester United has received a significant boost in their pursuit of Jean-Philippe Mateta, the Crystal Palace striker, who is now expected to leave Selhurst Park in 2027. The 29-year-old has entered the final year of his contract, and Palace reportedly acknowledges that his time at the club is nearing its end, as noted by Football Insider. The pressing question remains whether the Eagles will cash in during the January transfer window or allow him to depart as a free agent next summer.

Jean-Philippe Mateta has emerged as a potential option for Manchester United as they explore adding an experienced striker to their squad. The Red Devils had aimed to enhance competition for Benjamin Sesko during the summer but ultimately chose to focus on other areas of their team.

However, with Sesko's injury issues surfacing, the need for another reliable option up front has become evident, raising the prospect of Joshua Zirkzee also being moved on. Mateta fits the profile Manchester United seeks, boasting extensive Premier League experience and a track record as an effective goalscorer since his arrival at Palace. He has netted 42 Premier League goals over the last three seasons, making him an appealing choice for a club in need of a seasoned forward rather than a developing prospect.

Crystal Palace now faces a pivotal decision regarding Mateta's future. Selling him in January would enable the club to secure a transfer fee, while retaining him until the end of the season could result in a loss without compensation. Manchester United is reportedly keen, with director of football Jason Wilcox expressing admiration for the striker, according to TEAMtalk. Other clubs are also showing interest, indicating that United may encounter competition if they decide to formalize their interest.

As it stands, Mateta's departure from Crystal Palace in 2027 looks increasingly probable, with January presenting a potential opportunity for Manchester United to advance their pursuit of the experienced striker.
