Manchester City has finalized a deal to acquire Niamh Charles, the England defender, from Chelsea. After spending six successful years at Chelsea, where she made 173 appearances, Charles is set for a new chapter.

During her tenure, Charles helped Chelsea secure an impressive collection of trophies:

• 5 Women's Super League titles
• 4 FA Cups
• 3 League Cups

Additionally, she was part of the squad that reached the Women's Champions League final in 2021 under the guidance of former manager Emma Hayes.

Charles' exit comes as Katie McCabe joins Chelsea from Arsenal, marking a significant shift in the team dynamics. Meanwhile, Manchester City, fresh off winning their first WSL title in a decade in May, aims to bolster their squad as they prepare for the upcoming European challenges.

In addition to Charles, City is also poised to sign England forward Beth Mead, who recently departed from Arsenal. Charles will bring essential WSL and Women’s Champions League experience to City, while she seeks to secure regular playing time and solidify her position in Sarina Wiegman’s squad ahead of next year's World Cup.
