Manchester City has made headlines by agreeing to a club record fee for Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest. The England midfielder is set to become City’s most expensive signing after Forest accepted a staggering nine-figure offer, despite previously rejecting a bid of £106m.

The deal, valued at £120m, is a straightforward offer without any add-ons, although it falls short of the British transfer record held by Alexander Isak’s £125m transfer from Newcastle to Liverpool last summer.

Manchester United had also shown interest in Anderson, but City’s readiness to meet Forest’s hefty asking price solidified their position. Anderson emerged as a top target for City amid their midfield restructuring following the departure of captain Bernardo Silva to Real Madrid.

In addition to Anderson, City is exploring the possibility of signing another central midfielder, with Sandro Tonali from Newcastle also under consideration.

Currently, Anderson is in the United States as part of the England squad competing in the World Cup, raising questions about the timing and location of his medical examination to finalize the deal.

Once completed, this signing will bring City’s total spending for the 2025 and 2026 seasons to around £550m. The club’s previous record signing was Jack Grealish, who joined for £100m in 2021. Anderson’s transfer from Forest, where he joined for £35m two years ago, will yield significant profit for the Midlands club.

Additionally, City is nearing the appointment of Enzo Maresca to succeed Pep Guardiola as manager, following discussions with Chelsea regarding compensation.
