In a gripping second-round match at the US Open, Madison Keys showcased her resilience by saving five match points against Hungary’s Anna Bondar. The 22nd seed triumphed with a score of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(10-5), overcoming a 5-3 deficit in the deciding set's tiebreak to secure her place in the third round. Keys will now face either Qinwen Zheng, the Olympic champion, or Yulia Putintseva.

On Arthur Ashe Stadium, Naomi Osaka also displayed her fighting spirit, overcoming a second-set scare against Katerina Siniakova. After winning the first set convincingly, Osaka faltered in the second, allowing Siniakova to force a decider with a score of 6-2, 5-7, 6-1. Despite her struggles, Osaka regrouped in the third set, breaking Siniakova early to maintain control and advance to face Elise Mertens, who defeated Maria Timofeeva in straight sets.

Osaka reflected on her match, stating, "This match was definitely really tough, I had to fight. I had a couple opportunities in the second set and I think I was a little bit too hard on myself. I took a bathroom break, regrouped. I told myself that it’s an honour to play on this court, and I just want to keep playing in front of you guys, so just try to fight as best I can."

In other matches, Iga Swiatek, the 2022 champion, easily defeated Nadia Podoroska with a score of 6-3, 6-2 and will face Marie Bouzkova, who dispatched Harriet Dart 6-2, 6-2. With Dart's exit, Fran Jones remains the only Briton left in the singles draw.
